Leaving our ship behind us we will begin our drive towards Câmara de Lobos, a small fishing village on the south coast where we will make our first short photo stop to take a lookout from the viewpoint. Passing by Estreito de Camara de Lobos we will make our second photo stop at Cabo Girão, the highest sea-cliff in Europe and the second highest in the world at 580m above sea level. Ribeira Brava – meaning wild stream, is our next stop. A small town on the south west coast of the Island, which boasts many street cafés and shops and is certainly the place to spend a short while to take in the sights and sounds before reboarding our coach, heading to Paul da Serra, the only plateau on the island at 1400 metres. After crossing Paul da Serra, we will reach Porto Moniz, the most north western point of the Island and possibly the most spectacular, which is well known for its volcanic swimming pools. Here we will stop for lunch and be given some free time to explore on our own or visit the shops in the village. After lunch, and on our way to São Vicente, we will discover one of the most beautiful points of the north coast, a road built on the rocks near the sea where we can admire the astonishing waterfalls. Continuing on we will reach Encumeada, a summit where both parts of the island – north and south – can be seen at the same time (weather permitting). With a full day behind us we must head back to Funchal and our awaiting ship passing the beautiful valley of Serra D’Agua on the way. This tour involves very little walking and at all stops it is possible to remain on the coach, however to get the most out of this tour it is not recommended. Walking at each stop is at your own discretion apart from Porto Moniz where a 5 minutes walk is necessary to reach the restaurant for lunch.
