When the Knights of the Order of St John of Jerusalem came to the island of Rhodes, they found the ancient Acropolis beautifully situated among two bays with crystal-clear water, above the picturesque village of Lindos. They made Lindos one of their strongholds by fortifying the Acropolis. The imposing castle they built still stands today. From the harbour in Rhodes, we will board our coach for an approximate hour’s drive to beautiful Lindos. Our trip along the north eastern coast will offer us an opportunity to see the nicest part of the island, with its quaint villages, huge olive groves, valleys and mountains. Upon arrival in Lindos, we follow our guide for a walk to the Acropolis. Here we will visit the castle and the ancient Sanctuary of Athena. Following this there will be free time to explore the site on our own, or to return to the village to stroll through its lovely streets.
Please note that this tour involves a lot of uphill walking to the Acropolis, including uneven ground and over 200 steps. It is possible for passengers who do not wish to walk uphill to the Acropolis to wait in Plane Tree Square for the group to return. This tour is not recommended for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair users.
