The highlights of Naples will unfold before us on our scenic coach tour. Departing from the quayside, we first take the panoramic coastal road, climbing the hill of Posillipo (the residential area), which boasts the most exciting views of the whole city and the Gulf of Naples. We will make a brief photo stop to admire the view of the Gulf with its three islands – Ischia, Procida and Capri – on the horizon and Mount Vesuvius in the background.
Our tour proceeds to the centre of Naples, where we will be able to see the façade of the Royal Palace. The palace is adorned with eight statues, which represent the dynasties that have ruled Naples, including Greek, Roman, Gothic, Byzantine, Norman, Spanish, Bourbon and Italian.
We shall also see the Royal San Carlo – one of the most famous opera houses in the world, and the largest opera house in Italy. Next we see the Maschio Angiono Castle, which was built by Charles of Anjou. Remodelled by one of the Aragon Kings, the castle has slowly been restored over the years to repair and preserve its original structure.
At the end of our city tour, we can enjoy approximately 45 minutes of free time to explore further, before returning to the quayside.
TOUR NOTES: This is primarily a coach tour, which is suitable for passengers with limited mobility (providing they can board a coach unaided). The amount of walking during the period of free time is at the discretion of the individual. Depending upon traffic conditions, the order of sights may be visited in a different order to that described. Please note that shops are closed on Sundays.
