DESCRIPTION CORRECT FOR 2010
Departing the quayside, our coach joins the motorway and proceeds west, to the glittering enclave of Cannes – famous for its film festival, when movie stars can be seen here in abundance. A short stop at the elegant La Croisette Avenue allows us to admire the renowned hotels and the shops of the Rue d’Antibes. We can then enjoy some free time to explore Cannes independently, before proceeding with our tour.
Leaving Cannes, we travel inland along the Gorges du Loup Canyon en route to Saint Paul de Vence, the meeting place of the artists and stars. The tapering outline of the village stands out from afar, above the rolling hills and rich valleys of the Vence countryside, in a charming setting.
During our exploration we will discover that this 16th century walled town, typical of the fortified villages guarding the frontier, has retained much of its medieval appearance, its ramparts remaining remarkably intact to this day. We will have the opportunity to stroll through the narrow, cobblestone lanes, exploring the many wonderful boutiques and art galleries, and can stop to enjoy lunch (at passengers’ own cost), prior to returning to our ship.
TOUR NOTES: This tour involves approximately one hour of compulsory walking and standing, some of which will be over steep uphill and uneven ground, therefore it is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair users. Our time in St Paul de Vence will be free time, therefore the amount of walking undertaken here is at the discretion of the individual, however the walk from the coach park here to the centre is approximately half a mile each way. Please note that lunch and refreshments are NOT included in this tour – these will be at the passengers’ own expense.
