Departing from the pier, our coach will travel into Valencia, where we shall begin a short sightseeing tour of the city. As our tour continues, we proceed to an area of the city known as ‘The City of Arts and Sciences’ a modern complex that was built between the last section of the Turia riverbed and the El Saler’s highway. The Hemispheric, a structure similar to a big shell, is the first element of the ‘Ciudad de las Artes’ and occupies a large rectangular spot of approximately 26,000 square metres. The contemporary building emerges from an immense pool and in its interior we shall see the main lobby with its incredible roof and the sunshades and lateral gates that can be removed. The Hemispheric holds a planetarium, an auditorium and a projection room that has a 900 square metre concave screen with a sound track in four languages and six-channel stereo, and displays three remarkable productions. As we continue on, we shall visit the Science Museum Principe Felipe, an open dynamic museum with many large areas. The building takes the form of a vast roof supported by a transparent glazed north façade and a suitably opaque south frontage, both of which respond to the specific sun light conditions according to the direction they face. Inside there are three main floors, Technopolis, A window on Science and Shapes and Structures. The legacy of science complements these three areas; and is where the ideas of Nobel Prize winners are on exhibition. We shall also be able to appreciate an interactive centre, a pioneer among buildings, where learning is entertaining and where we will discover how science and technology have contributed to the improvement of our standards of living. Please note that this tour involves approximately 2 hours of walking mostly over flat ground, however there will be ramps between different floors in the buildings to negotiate.
