The City of Arts and Sciences is a comprehensive urban activity centre for culture and science. It also incorporates the Oceanographic Park; an underwater city planned by the late Felix Candela. The complex covers an area of 350,000 square metres. As our coach continues we will soon reach the city centre. Here we shall be able to admire some of the most impressive buildings built during the 21st century, including the town hall, the post office, the Columbus and the central markets, the North station, the bull ring and many more. Our drive then continues to the oldest part of Valencia, home to Roman ruins, many Gothic buildings and small palaces and perhaps one of the cities most emblematic monuments; La Lonja (or silk exchange) and the Cathedral. Finally our tour will continue to the old riverbed of the Turia River, where the former gates to the city are still located – The Serrano’s Towers. The old riverbed has become the most important leisure area of the capital. Following a huge flood in 1957 the course of the river was diverted outside of the city, however here the bridges still connect the two parts of Valencia. This tour involves approximately 1¼ hours of walking, however much of this is at your discretion.
