Departing Mahón harbour on the eastern side of the island, we drive to Fornells – a picturesque fishing village on the north coast. We will have free time here to take a stroll. We continue to Monte Toro, the name originated from the Arabic word ‘altor’, meaning ‘Main Mountain’. Monte Toro is the highest peak in Menorca, from which we can enjoy panoramic views of the entire island. On a clear day, it is possible to see as far as Majorca. Our next stop is at Torralba, a megalithic village where we find one of the most important Talayotic settlements on the island, the Torralba d’en Salort. (The Talayotic Period began in around 1400BC). Finally, we visit Binibeca on the south coast – an artistic recreation of a typical Moorish-fishing village. This tour involves a fair amount of leisurely walking, about 2¼ hours in total, some of it over uneven ground.
