The flower valley lies on a fertile meander of the river flowing out of the Kiagtut Sermiat Glacier, producing a flourishing crop of hay each year. The adjacent rivers’ banks are colonised by rosebay willow herb, the national flower of Greenland. On this tour we will have the opportunity to observe many of the species of plants and birds typical of South Greenland.

The flower valley lies on a fertile meander of the river flowing out of the Kiagtut Sermiat Glacier, producing a flourishing crop of hay each year. The adjacent rivers’ banks are colonised by rosebay willow herb, the national flower of Greenland. On this tour we will have the opportunity to observe many of the species of plants and birds typical of South Greenland. A bus will pick us up from the pier and transfer us the short distance to the end of the road, in the Hospital Valley. From here we commence our hike into the Flower Valley, heading for the lake in front of the Kiagtut Sermiat Glacier. We shall walk through fertile Arctic scenery. Most of the walk will be on a mountain track, which we will retrace on the return hike. This tour gives us the chance to be at one with nature, and enjoy the feeling of complete peace and solitude.

This tour is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair users – a good level of fitness is required to undertake the hike. The hike covers approximately five kilometres (three miles) with an overall climb of some 152 metres (500 feet). Rough, rocky, sloping and hilly ground will be encountered. Suitable footwear with a good grip should be worn. Dress warmly in layers that you can add or remove as necessary. There are no toilet facilities. A drink of coffee or tea will be served at a viewpoint on the hike. You may wish to bring a bottle of water.
