Our tour begins with a panoramic drive through Waterford, widely known as the ‘Crystal City’. We will drive along the quay, passing Reginald’s Tower – an ancient fortification erected in 1003 as part of the Danish Defences.

Waterford was settled by a Celtic tribe called the Deisi, and recent archaeological excavations have also revealed evidence of a Viking settlement here as early as the 10th century – not quite obliterated by the Anglo Norman’s who followed. The city’s English name comes from the Norse word ‘Vadrefjord’. Our tour begins with a panoramic drive through Waterford, widely known as the ‘Crystal City’. Continuing outside the city, we visit the famous Waterford Crystal Factory, home of the world’s finest crystal. ‘Waterford’ – the very word conjures up the brilliant sparkling crystal, famed all over the globe. Each piece is a miracle of light, heat and the skill of master craftsmen, and celebrates a tradition of perfection. We will be introduced to the crafting process through the eyes of the crystal makers, who will share with us their skills of cutting and engraving. While browsing through the world’s largest display of Waterford crystal, the friendly and professional staff will be pleased to assist us to purchase gifts from the collection. Also available are the prestigious brands of Wedgwood Tableware, Rosenthal, Stuart Crystal, John Rocha at Waterford Crystal and Marquis of Waterford. After a memorable visit, we rejoin our coach and travel to a nearby hostelry, to enjoy the delights of a velvety Irish coffee. We return to our ship. This tour involves approximately 1 hour of walking or standing during the tour of the Crystal Factory, as well as time spent in the show room, and is suitable for wheelchair users. Flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
