MALAGA, SPAIN

Malaga is the capital city of the Costa del Sol, founded by the Phoenicians as a colony some 3000 years ago it has come under the rule of the Romans, the Carthaginians and the Moors. With approximately 670,000 inhabitants, the city lives a “Janus faced” life as both a busy port and industrial centre for the South of Spain; its ancient streets, lovely villas, lush vegetation and good weather make of this city one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe. Departing from the pier, we will start our tour visiting the Gibralfaro’s Castle (the name come from the Moorish “Jebel” meaning hill and “Faro” meaning lighthouse), which crowns the top of a hill that outlooks the city. From here we will continue to the Cathedral, also called “La Manquita (meaning “the little one armed lady”). In 1582, after conquering Malaga from the Moors, the Catholic Kings ordered a cathedral to be built over the original mosque. The construction was not finished until 1728, and the façade is mainly Renaissance in style. The building has only one tower; the building was halted on the second tower due to lack of money. Nevertheless, a majestic flight of marble steps lead to the main entrance. Afterwards we will proceed to visit the birth house of one of the most famous sons of Malaga, Pablo Picasso and later on we will have some free time before returning to the harbour. Please note that this tour involves approximately 2 hours in total of walking including some steps and uneven ground, therefore this tour is not suitable for passengers using wheelchairs or passengers with limited mobility.
