On this tour we will see the highlights which the city of Gijón has to offer. Its history and tradition make it both Atlantic and Cantabrian, and a touch Mediterranean. Gijón is situated in the principality of Asturias – in the area known as Green Spain. As well as being a fishing port it is also a University City and summer holiday destination for the Spanish people. Our drive from the port will take approximately 30 minutes in order to reach the city centre. Arriving in the city centre we shall commence our walking tour of the city and along San Lorenzo promenade. This will be followed by some free time. We then continue by coach to Llagar where we will visit a cider cellar and are able to taste the local cider and Asturian cheese. After this interesting look at this part of Northern Spain, we shall return to our ship.
This tour is not recommended for passengers with limited mobility or in wheelchairs as it involves approximately 2 hours of walking, partly over uneven and steep terrain. There are also approximately 70 steps to negotiate. Sights may be visited in a different order to that described.
