We begin our tour with an approximate two-hour drive to Seville, passing through the wonderful landscapes of Low Andalucia, large sherry vineyards, cotton, sugar beat and wheat fields en route.
Seville provides the most universal picture of the spirit of Spain as a whole due to its wealth of art and architecture, attractive urban layout and graceful inhabitants. There are few cities with such special delights as La Giralda, the Almohad tower with a Christian crown, Alcazar, the Mudejar Palace full of medieval legends, and the Cathedral, the third largest in the Christian world. The city’s quarters are also quaint, with their narrow winding streets and tiny squares. Seville also stands for the splendour of magnificent bullfights, with the beautiful Maestranza Bullring and its famous school of bullfighters.
Plaza España is a grandiose structure built as Spain’s pavilion for the 1929 Hispanic-American Exhibition. It is part of the Maria Luisa Park, and the impressive villas we will see here today are the fair’s remaining pavilions, many of them now consulates or schools. This combination of colour, drama and charm has given Seville a marked personality and universal outlook, which has made it one of the most highly praised cities in the world.
During our walking tour, we shall visit the Alcazar, the Cathedral and Barrio de Santa Cruz, after which we can enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Next we embark on a panoramic city tour, passing the Plaza de America, Plaza España and Bullring, prior to returning to Cadiz and our awaiting ship.
TOUR NOTES: This tour involves approximately two and three quarter hours of walking, most of which will be over cobbled ground, and some steps will be encountered at the Alcazar and Cathedral. Unfortunately it is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or wheelchair users. For reference, we will make a comfort stop en-route to Seville. Please note that the Alcazar may be closed if there is a visit from the Royal Highness and if our call falls on a Sunday, a visit cannot be made due to religious services, in which case we shall visit Casa Pilatos instead. The typical Spanish lunch includes a glass of red wine and mineral water.
