Leaving from Le Palais, the island’s main town, dominated by the impressive citadel, we will take the narrow country roads to reach the wild coast ‘Cote Sauvage’. Our first stop will be at Port-Coton for a photo stop at Port-Coton needles. The needles are an impressive pyramid of rock worn to a point by the sea. Our next stop will be made to view the apothecary’s grotto. The grotto forms a deep cavity into which the sea thunders.

Next we proceed along the Cote Sauvage towards the Pointe des Poulains, where a breathtaking panorama can be seen. We will follow our guide to discover this famous beauty spot, which greatly appealed to the actress Sarah Bernhardt. Her fortress house, where she spent almost all of her summers, can still be seen here. Our final stop will be at the lovely Port of Sauzon with its busy marina. Sauzon lies in a very pretty setting on the east bank of the Sauzon’s river estuary. We can enjoy some free time here to explore or browse for souvenirs, before returning to our awaiting ship.

TOUR NOTES: This tour includes approximately 50 minutes of walking at Pointe des Poulains, plus additional walking at each of the photo stops, and there are approximately 30 steps to negotiate. Uneven and rough terrain will be encountered to reach some of the viewpoints. Walking during the free time in Sauzon is at the discretion of the individual. For reference, toilet facilities are available in Sauzon.
