This tour has limited capacity; and will be sold on a first come, first served basis. We understand that this tour may be one of the highlights of your cruise, but please appreciate that once the capacity has been reached it will be very difficult for us to secure further departures – your understanding with this matter will be greatly appreciated. Nuuk is situated at the entrance to one of the world’s most spectacular fjords. On this exhilarating whale spotting excursion, we sail into the archipelago west of Nuuk where, all year round, these wonderful mammals feed in between the islands. From June to late September there is a far better chance of seeing these amazing creatures here than anywhere else in Greenland. The waters are rich in shoal swimming fish and crustaceans. There are mainly three species of whale seen – Humpback, Minke and Fin whales. We may also see Blue and Killer whales if we are lucky. Besides whale spotting, this tour also takes in some of the local bird life and allows us to experience the force of Arctic nature.
Although there is limited walking on this tour, it is not wheelchair accessible and is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility – there is usually a walk of 600-700 metres (2,000-2,300 feet) to board the boats. Boarding the small boats used may require climbing some steps, or simply having to climb on board – they will be working boats. As this is a natural spectacle there is, unfortunately, no guarantee that we will see whales. Warm, wind and rainproof clothing and comfortable shoes are essential. This tour may not be suitable for passengers who suffer from seasickness.
