APAI, SOMOA
Our tour will begin with a drive to the South West coast of the Island of Upolu, making a stop at the Papapapaiuta Falls for a quick photograph stop along the way. The drive is along the airport road which author James Michner had quoted as the “most beautiful” drive in the South Pacific. We will be taken through lush rainforests, plantations and typical villages and colourful gardens.
The first stop will be at Lefaga village and “Return to Paradise Beach”. This was the location for the early 1950s film “Return to Paradise”, starring Gary Cooper in the leading role. The beach area is what every visitor dreams the South Pacific to be – turquoise blue sea, white sand and contrasting black lava rocks… a typical romantic island setting. What better place for a swim, shell collecting or just a relaxing hour on the beach to soak up the sun. We will be entertained with singing and dancing by the Lefaga village Sunday School and Youth group on the beach. This is a special feature as the children and youth group do not perform commercially but for their own district competitions.
After lunch we will begin our return journey back to our ship. The drive will take us through Malua and the scenic Apai township.
TOUR NOTES: Don’t forget to bring a towel and it is recommended that you come wearing your swim wear under your clothes. Basic toilets and changing facilities are available at Return to Paradise Beach.
