Leaving the pier by coach, within a few minutes we will be surrounded by typical Corsican vegetation, the ‘Macchia’ – a green, brown or multicoloured bush depending on the season…but always sweet smelling.As we arrive in the village of Bocognano, we’ll find ourselves in the middle of a mountain. We will see heavy grey granite houses that thrust upward between chestnut trees, and discover the wild scenery around us.The road continues to twist up the Vizzavona Pass (1,162 metres/3,812 feet in altitude), and it is here we will see the vegetation change into forests of pines. We shall make a short stop at a local restaurant to enjoy a ‘Spuntinu’. Spuntinu is the local word for snack, and it was traditional to eat this after a long morning’s work in the mountain; it is generally made up of cold meats, cheese, cake and wine.After this tasty stop, weather permitting we will enjoy free time, before driving back to our ship in Ajaccio.Please note that this tour involves approximately 20 minutes of walking over ground that may be uneven at times. Please bring a jacket, as it can be very fresh up in the mountain. We advise you to wear comfortable shoes. Passengers who suffer from vertigo may find that this tour is not suitable for them, as we will travel along steep, winding roads. Please note that there are no public toilets in Corsica, passengers who wish to use the facilities of bars/ restaurants (other than at the local restaurant used for the Spuntinu) will be expected to purchase a drink before using the facilities.
