ROAD TOWN, TORTOLA

Boarding a catamaran from the marina in Road Town, we commence an exhilarating cruise across the Sir Francis Drake Channel, retracing the paths of adventurers such as Drake, Columbus and Kidd on this historic waterway – scene of many skirmishes between the British, Spanish and Dutch, and haunting ground of marauding pirates who looted merchant ships laden with treasure!

We make our way to one of the surrounding islands – perhaps Norman Island, whose caves are reputed to be the setting of Treasure Island, Salt Island or Peter Island. There we will stop for some spectacular snorkelling and swimming, into caves or over beautiful coral, before relocating to a beach for a short while. A complimentary rum or fruit punch will be served here, and we will be able to purchase further refreshments if we wish.

As the captain weighs anchor, we begin our journey back to Road Town, skimming the azure blue waters of the Caribbean.

TOUR NOTES: Passengers on this tour should be relatively agile. There is a stepladder to get into and out of the water (which is up to 12 metres/40 feet deep) for swimming/snorkelling. The destination is dependent on weather conditions; caves are only found at Norman Island. At the beach stop (either the Bight at Norman Island or Oceans seven at Peter Island) our catamaran may either dock or anchor out (in which case we will swim ashore, or travel by zodiac). Snorkelling equipment is provided. Come already wearing your swimming costume under casual clothes, and do not forget your towel and sun protection. It is not advisable to drink alcohol before swimming. Bus transfers to and from the marina are included.
