Our tour today will allow us to experience the interesting ruins of the walled city of Tulum which rises high above the crystal blue Caribbean Sea. We will be invited to admire the awe-inspiring views as well as exploring the archaeological monuments of this ceremonial centre, which was left behind as a reminder of this truly incredible ancient monument.
Departing from the quayside, we will have an approximate one and a half hour journey from the quayside to Tulum. Throughout our journey our guide will offer us a colourful narration about the history and life of the Yucatan as well as the mysterious Mayan culture.
Upon our arrival at the ruins, our guide will escort us through the walled Mayan City, the secrets, facts, myths and legends of this long forgotten society. We will be invited to marvel over the 60 restored temples and the secrets that are hidden within these sacred walls by the use of mysterious hieroglyphic writings. We will be able to visit the Temple of the Frescos, Temple of the Descending God, the House of he Chultan and the House of the Columns.
Our tour will end with a breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea where the towering El Castillo, which is located 40 feet above the Sea. Once our tour has concluded, we shall return to our awaiting ship in Cozumel.
TOUR NOTES: Please note that the terrain at the ruins will be made up of uneven limestone and loose stones, therefore extra care and attention should be taken, so as not to trip or fall. We do not recommend this tour to passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair users. For your reference, there is an approximate ten minute walk to and from the parking area to the entrance of the ruins - a tram service operating along this route should be available at a cost of US$ two (correct at the time of printing). Please note however that the tram ride is not part of our tour and will therefore be at your own expense. This tour does involve a considerable amount of walking, standing and climbing over uneven and rough surfaces therefore comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. At the time of printing, the cost of using a camera or video camera at the Tulum ruins was US$ 5-8 (professional cameras and tripods are not permitted). Please bring adequate sun protection and mosquito repellent. A packed lunch will be provided by our ship, however this must be consumed on the bus as food is strictly prohibited in the ruins. For your reference, passengers are not permitted to climb the ruins.
