We board our coach at the quay and drive along the River Rauma, a favourite with anglers for more than a century. To our left is Mount Romsdalshorn (1,550 metres) and to our right is Trolltindane (Troll Peaks of approximately 1,800 metres). We drive close to Trollveggen (Troll Wall) with its vertical and overhanging wall of over 1,000 metres. Some of the world's most difficult climbing routes are found here, and climbers from all around the world come to try them out. Crossing the Sogge Bridge we approach the Isterdal valley, surrounded by impressive mountains with majestic names, such as The King (1,614 metres), The Queen (1,568 metres) and The Bishop (1,450 metres). Further up the valley we reach the fantastic Trollstig Road (Path of the Trolls) which winds its way up 11 narrow hairpin bends blasted out of the mountainside. Half way up the road it crosses the Stigfoss Waterfall, with a drop of 180 metres, where a photo stop is made. At Trollstigheimen we reach the highest point – 850 metres, with fabulous views. On our return we will have a coffee stop, before we return to our awaiting ship in Åndalsnes via the same road.
There is some walking involved in this tour, however it is optional at the photostop. At the coffee stop, the restaurant entrance has a small step with a ramp, so it is wheelchair accessible. Please note this tour includes a journey with hairpin bends, therefore it may not be suitable for passengers who suffer from vertigo.
