We will make our way on foot from the landing stage up to the town to visit a local family in their home. Greenlanders celebrate many events with Kaffe-Mik, which is a tradition of inviting friends and relatives for coffee, tea and cake. While we enjoy this custom we will be shown the Greenlandic national costume. It takes hundreds of hours to create such a unique outfit and we shall be given a demonstration of how it is made, by one of the townswomen who still has the traditional skills. After our tour we may stay in the town before returning to our ship, or walk at leisure back to the pier.
Please note that this tour is entirely on foot and, as Qaqortoq is spread over a mountain slope, we can expect some uneven and sloped ground. Therefore it may not be suitable for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair users. Walking distance from the pier is approximately 400 metres (1,300 feet). We will go in groups of up to 15 participants per house.
