ROAD TOWN, TORTOLA
From Road Harbour, an excursion launch picks us up and takes us on an approximate 40-minute cruise along the Sir Francis Drake Channel to Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda. Open safari buses then transport us on a five minute drive to the incredible baths – a formation of mammoth boulders resulting from volcanic eruptions over 70 million years ago, rounded and shaped by ocean waves and surrounded by pristine white sands. Here there is plenty of time for swimming or snorkelling in this unique place, in the naturally-formed pools of seawater, or in the beautifully clear open ocean.
At the top of the baths, buses await to take us on the short drive back to our launch – but not before we have enjoyed a complimentary drink.
TOUR NOTES: We recommend that you wear comfortable walking shoes, as the footpath to and from the baths is rough, uneven and sloping, and covers quite a distance (at least 500 metres/1,600 feet); there are approximately eight steps. To walk through the boulder formations there is a lot of bending, stretching and climbing, therefore passengers participating in this tour should be energetic and physically able. This tour is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility. Snorkel gear can be hired on the beach, as can lockers to store your belongings. There is a bar selling refreshments, and toilet facilities. Come already wearing your swimming costume under casual clothes, and do not forget your towel and sun protection.
