This world famous wine producing area is divided into three separate zones : the region of viticulture proper, a zone of coastal forest and the Palus, which punctuates the limestone bluffs of Saint-Estephe and Pauillac. Fine red wines come from the first zone : North of Saint – Seurin – under the simple overall description of Medoc. To the South, from Saint-Seurin to Blanquefort, lies the district deserving the more distinguished Haut-Medoc appellation. We will depart from the quayside and join the Medoc wine road ‘Route Des Chateaux’, located between the Gironde estuary and the Landes forest. It provides magnificent views of wine covered gravely rises as far as the eye can see. Medoc vineyards are orderly and well kept, almost to the point of fanaticism, and the regions’s famous chateaux’s produce wine that are nothing short of divine….. Moulis, Listrac, Saint Julien, Saint Estephe, Pauillac, Medoc, Haut Medoc and Margaux. We will make a stop at either Château Pichon-Longueville or Château Lafite Rothschild for a photo opportunity before we reach the cellar of a famous Château such as Loudenne, La Tour De By, Lynch-Bages, Beychevelle, La Tour Carnet, Lascombes, Kirwan, Maucaillou, Palmer, Issan…. Among many others. We will be given a tour of the cellars and shown the techniques of wine making before we will be able to taste a recent vintage. This tour will involve approximately 1 hour of walking around the wine cellar where a small amount of steps will be encountered.
