This tour will allow us to see the different aspects of the Balinese environment, as we travel past fringed beaches and towards towering volcanoes. We shall depart Padang Bai by coach for our approximate 60 minute journey to the town of Klungkung. Upon our arrival we shall proceed to Kehen Temple, which is of similar form and purpose to Besakih – the Mother Temple. Kehen Temple, is one of a few largest temples left in Bali, it was built during the reign of Sri Bhatara Guru Adikunti Ketana in the 11th century in a terraced mountain sanctuary that was the site of an earlier temple dating back to the 9th century. Formerly, it was known as Hyang Api - God of Fire - temple. The sacred temple is built majestically on terraces on the southern slope of the hill under a large Banyan tree that shades the shrines and gates of its courtyards. The forest background of this temple offers a unique ambience and mesmerising scene. We will have an opportunity to visit the temple and its surrounds, including strolling around the ascending courtyards, reminiscent of the stepped pyramids of the megalithic age.As we leave the Kehen Temple, our tour will proceed to Penglipuran village where we shall visit a local family compound and receive an introduction to Balinese architecture and living. Following our stop at the village our tour will continue to Kintamani, where we will be able to enjoy a spectacular view of the still smoking peaks of Mt.Batur. Still active Mt. Batur is surrounded by Lake Batur and lava-lunar landscape created during its eruptions in 1917 and 1927. We shall stop for a buffet lunch in a local Kintamani restaurant, overlooking the crater with its lake and villages.Refreshed from our lunch we shall rejoin our coaches and proceed to Ubud village. En route we will pass through many beautiful rice terraces located in the Tegalalang Village – we may even spot a local Balinese farmer working in his terrace. Upon arrival in Ubud we will spend some time browsing the local artists studios and enjoying their painting collections before rejoining our coach for our return journey. Please note that this tour involves a moderate amount of walking, some of which may be over uneven ground. Some steps may also be encountered. This tour is not recommended for passengers with limited mobility or passengers using a wheelchair. We recommend that you wear comfortable, lightweight clothing and non-slip shoes. A bottle of mineral water will be available during our coach journey. Lunch will include ice water, tea and coffee, any additional drinks can be purchased locally.
