ROATAN ISLAND, HONDURAS

Experience the ethnic culture of Roatan Island.

From Coxen Hole, where our ship is, we travel to “The Iguana Farm” where we will see many giant iguanas roaming freely around us, some of them are more than 3 feet long. We will also spend some time visiting the small in-sea tarpon aquarium. Our next stop will be Dixon Cove in the area of Las Palmas. Here we shall take a short boat ride along the coast, during which we will see the biggest semi-submerged shipwrecks of Roatan and the mangroves. Following this experience we will enjoy a musical show, performed by Garifunas – direct descendants of island Caribs and African slaves. They will share with us their most important dances, one of which is called the Punta. A complimentary refreshment is included. There is then approximately one hour of free time to shop, or simply relax on the beach at Las Palmas. Before travelling back to our ship, we stop at the Ethnic Culture Village to gain a better understanding of the islanders’ way of life.

TOUR NOTES: This tour involves some walking over rough ground, and a few steps. The small local boats used for the approximate 15 minute ride may not be covered. If you intend to swim, do not forget your swimming costume and towel. Bring sun protection.
