LA GOMERA, CANARY ISLANDS

San Sebastian, the capital and harbour of the island, is a pretty, picturesque village with about 6,000 inhabitants.

San Sebastian, the capital and harbour of the island, is a pretty, picturesque village with about 6,000 inhabitants. It was here that Columbus prepared his ships with water and food supplies, and where the church of La Auncion stands, this is the church where Columbus and his crew attended mass before setting sail for America. We depart San Sebastian and travel south in the direction of Degollada Peraza. Stopping enroute for a photo opportunity at the viewpoint known as ‘Los Roques de Agando’, an impressive rock formation. We will continue in the direction of Chipuede village, and then afterwards to El Cercado, famous for its pottery – a tradition inherited from one generation to another, as no pottery wheel is used. We should have time to visit the pottery artisans, before enjoying an aperitif of some local Canarian dishes, such as Almogrote (a kind of cheese paté with red pepper), Spanish omelette, and chickpeas in sauce, figs and wine. We shall then make the return drive to our ship. This tour involves a limited amount of walking over uneven ground. There are also a few steps to negotiate throughout the tour. Please note that this tour does travel along steep, winding roads and may not be suitable for passengers who suffer from Vertigo. We recommend that you bring a jumper or a jacket along with you, as it may get chilly the further we travel.
