On this sightseeing tour we shall pass by Moncada Barracks, where Fidel Castro’s first military action against the dictator Batista took place. We’ll also see San Juan Park and Revolution Square, with its huge statue of the 19th-century revolutionary hero, Antonio Maceo, and view the cemetery where Jose Marti (‘the Father of Cuba’) is buried. We will visit the bar at a rum factory to sample the produce; the Cigar House to purchase these elegant smokes; and the El Morro Castle. We’ll then drive to Marlin Marina, to embark the boat, which will ferry us on a ten-minute ride to Cayo Granma (formerly known as Smith Cay), where a seafood lunch is served. There will be time to relax and unwind before our return to the city. Back in Santiago we stop in Céspedes Park, the heart of the city, where the beautiful Cathedral overlooks the square, before rejoining our ship. There is some walking involved at each stop; rough ground and steps can be expected, particularly at El Morro Castle. Lunch includes 1 drink per person. Please note that we will not tour the actual rum factory. Cayo Granma is not a suitable place to swim.
