Just four miles from Tallinn's city centre is a fascinating museum that recreates the village life of 18th and 19th century rural Estonia. We start with a drive through the cultural centre of Tallinn. We will catch a glimpse of the medieval city wall that encompasses the Old Town. Admiring the panorama of the Upper Town and modern residential areas, we make our way to the Open Air Museum of Rocca al Mare. The Italian name means "Rock by the Sea" and the setting is a beautiful forested area on the coast. This Estonian Village Museum offers us the opportunity to explore authentic examples of the local rural architecture, such as farmhouses, country pubs, windmills and chapels, and the furnishings and household items that were part of daily life in different regions of the country. A stop is made at a 19th century tavern where we will enjoy some refreshments and at a handicraft shop where those looking for keepsakes of their visit may purchase Estonian souvenirs.

This tour is not recommended for passengers using wheelchairs. It involves approximately an hour of walking and standing with the group at the Museum, and the tavern visited is not wheelchair accessible. The Estonian Kroon and credit cards are usually accepted when purchasing souvenirs.
