ROSEAU, DOMINICA

Picture this: no windows, no aisles, no glass barriers, just a 360 degree panoramic view to awaken the senses. As for this tour we travel by four-wheel drive, open-air ex-military jeeps! What better way to get to grips with this lush, scenic island.

Our fun-filled adventure begins with a short drive through Dominica’s capital, Roseau. Journeying to Morne Bruce, our friendly guide will provide an informative commentary whilst we enjoy a picturesque view of the city.

Winding through the mountains, we proceed to the renowned Wotten Waven Sulphur Springs, a geothermal area with hot springs and sulphurous gases, remnants of the island’s volcanic activity. Hopping back into our jeep, we will enjoy an exciting ride further into Dominica’s interior rainforest, coming to a natural plunge pool at the Ti Tou Gorge. Ti Tou Gorge is an outlet of the Fresh Water Lake, one of the few mountain crater lakes in the Caribbean, engulfed in the secondary rainforest. Here we can have an exhilarating swim in the waters where hot and cold streams intermingle, bask under the unique warm waterfall, rich in minerals and soothing to the muscles, or simply take a breather and sip a cool refreshment.

After a thoroughly awesome few hours, we return to our ship.

TOUR NOTES: As the jeeps take us off-road, which can be bumpy over uneven ground, participating passengers should be in good health. This tour is unsuitable for people with neck or back problems, pregnant ladies, or those with limited mobility. You will walk over rough and sloping ground. Due to the open nature of the jeeps, you may get wet. To reach the plunge pool, there are steps and a rocky riverbed to negotiate, and a swim to get there; sturdy, waterproof shoes (or old shoes) are recommended, as is a waterproof camera. Come already wearing your swimming costume under casual clothes, and don’t forget a towel. Insect repellent may prove a handy addition to your bag. The jeeps do not have a PA system.
