ROSEAU, DOMINICA
Dominica’s aerial tram is the only one of its kind outside Central America. Join us on this rainforest adventure!
From the port we travel by bus through the capital city of Roseau and the Trafalgar Valley to Laudat, a village nestling at a height of around 1,000 metres (over 3,000 feet) in the mountains. En route we will be treated to magnificent views of forests and beautiful countryside, after all, Dominica is the ‘Nature Isle’ of the Caribbean!
Upon arrival at the tram, a brief orientation and safety talk will be given, before our exciting ride begins. As we glide slowly through pristine rainforest, we’ll encounter nature at its best. Over the course of the 70-minute round trip, our accompanying guide will introduce us to flora and fauna that may be seen, and talk generally about this wonderful island. The Morne Trois Piton rainforest boasts over 172 species of birds, including two endangered species of parrot.
Spectacular views of majestic mountains and the sparkling Caribbean Sea, as well as the Breakfast River Gorge, are all part of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. For those of us who wish to do so, there is the chance to walk across a bridge, which is suspended over the gorge – a thrilling opportunity!
Returning to base, a refreshing drink awaits us, before we travel back to our ship.
TOUR NOTES: As the Rainforest Aerial Tram takes participants to quite a height, and crosses a steep gorge, passengers suffering from vertigo should perhaps avoid this tour. Please note that there must be eight passengers per gondola, plus the guide. They do take time to load, so patience is necessary. The gondolas are relatively open, so we recommend that you come prepared for rain; bring a waterproof jacket. Binoculars may help you to make the most of your experience, although please note we cannot guarantee that wildlife will be spotted; we consider this tour as a unique ride, rather than an opportunity to see flora and fauna. There is a minimal amount of walking. The optional suspension bridge crossing will involve approximately 15 minutes of walking up log steps and slopes, the steps may be slippery so please take extra caution. Insect repellent is highly recommended.
