An approximate 45 minute drive through the beautiful Tuscan countryside takes us to the famous city of Pisa. Upon arrival, we disembark the coach and walk to Miracle Square to meet our local guide. We are led on a walking tour of the Campo dei Miracoli, one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Here we visit the 13th century cathedral with its Tuscan – Romanesque façade and an interior that I believed to be Muslim-inspired. We also have an inside view of the round marble Baptistery, built between 1153 and 1278. And of course no trip to Pisa would be complete without a view of the leaning tower where Galileo conducted his gravity experiments. After our guided tour, there will be some free time to shop or visit the Campo Santo, a fascinating cemetery containing tombs, sculptures, frescos and domes chapels. Following our free time we shall meet up with our guide for the return journey to our awaiting ship. This is a walking tour due to the pedestrianisation of the city. The guided tour lasts approximately 1 hour, followed by approximately 1 hour’s free time. Please ensure you wear comfortable shoes. Please note that if our call falls on a Sunday, shops may be closed.
