Departing from the quayside, we will pass by many of the important sites of Santo Domingo, the first capital of the New World, which was founded at the beginning of the 16th century
Departing from the quayside, we will pass by many of the important sites of Santo Domingo, the first capital of the New World, which was founded at the beginning of the 16th century.We will be able to view the majestic Columbus Lighthouse, Faro a Colon, the last burial of the Great Admiral Christopher Columbus and one of the most impressive commemorative lighthouses in the entire world. The lighthouse was designed in 1929, by British architect, Joseph Gleave, and finished for the fifth centennial anniversary of the discovery of the America’s.Next, we continue to the colonial city where we will pass the city walls and the Alcazar of Colon. We will head for the ‘Malecon’ (George Washington Avenue) before entering into the famous Maximo Gomez Street, home to the National Theatre and cultural square which houses various museums. We will also be able to view the independence park and the National Palace, as well as the boulevard and the economic center of the modern city before heading back to the pier.Please note that this tour is predominantly a coach tour and therefore involves a minimal amount of walking. Photo stops will be available wherever possible. There will not be toilet facilities onboard the coach and a toilet stop will not be made during this tour.
