This is our chance to admire the Isle of Skye’s beautiful Trotternish Peninsula. Leaving Portree we follow the coast of this hilly peninsula, passing through several little villages, where sheep and cattle roam the land (and possibly the road!). As we reach the exposed northerly tip of the island, we will stop at the Museum of Island Life, for a chance to see what life on Skye was like a century ago.
This is our chance to admire the Isle of Skye’s beautiful Trotternish Peninsula. Leaving Portree we follow the coast of this hilly peninsula, passing through several little villages, where sheep and cattle roam the land (and possibly the road!). As we reach the exposed northerly tip of the island, we will stop at the Museum of Island Life, for a chance to see what life on Skye was like a century ago. The Museum of Island Life is a group of small, thatched roof cottages depicting rural life for crofters and farmers of the past. A wide range of items are on display. One cottage is furnished with period furniture. There is also a barn, a weaver’s house and blacksmiths. Owing to the small size of the rooms in the croft house complex, our guide will give a detailed introduction and then remain outside, on hand to answer individual questions. Travelling south again, the scenery takes a distinctly mountainous look as we pass the bizarre rock sculpture of the ‘Old Man of Storr’. Pretty inland lochs and rivers give this stretch a real highland feel. We shall stop for photos when possible, throughout the tour – weather permitting.
This tour involves only a little walking, during our approximate 30 minute visit to the Museum of Island Life. The panoramic coach journey will take approximately one hour and fifteen minutes each way. Please note that the buses used may not have air conditioning or toilets.
