The archaeological site of Palma Sola (‘Where the Rock Speaks’) is located within the Veladero National Park, more than 300 metres (1,000 feet) above sea level, overlooking Acapulco Bay. We will reach the site by minivan, a drive of approximately 30 minutes. Upon arrival we will visit the ancient stone carvings here, and soak up the spectacular views. Stone steps lead us up the mountainside through lush vegetation to view the 2,000-year-old petroglyphs left by the Yope Indians, the area’s first inhabitants. After our exploration we will sip a cool refreshment at a nearby restaurant, and try some local snacks (such as nachos, tacos and quesadillas). This is a strenuous tour, which is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchairs, or for those with breathing difficulties. It involves walking over rough, uneven terrain and numerous steep stone steps. Extra caution should be taken when visiting this ancient archaeological site. Suitable walking shoes are essential (no heels or flip-flops). Participants should bring sun protection and insect repellent. One complimentary refreshment is included at the restaurant. We will also be given a bottle of mineral water during the tour of the archaeological site.
