Our excursion starts in Leknes, from where we cross underneath the narrow sound between Lilleeid and Napp to Flakstadøy. We proceed to the idyllic fishing village of Nusfjord – protected by UNESCO – where we can study the architecture of the colourful fishermen’s dwellings. Back on Vestvågøy we drive through Leknes – the administrative centre of the island – stopping to look round the Vestvågøy Museum, situated in the old school building. Here we will learn about the living conditions in bygone days, and see a genuine ‘rorbu’ (fisherman’s cabin) standing in the courtyard. We travel up to Hagskaret for marvellous views to the Norse (Norwegian) Sea and to the broad, deep Vestfjord between the Lofoten Islands and the mainland. Descending, we journey on towards Einangen, another well known viewpoint, looking straight down on the Buksnesfjord where our ship lies at anchor – a perfect spot for taking photos before we return to the pier.

This tour includes a moderate amount of walking in Nusfjord, some of it over hilly ground and some of it over gravel. There are narrow stairs in Vestvågøy Museum. Not recommended for passengers with limited mobility, or wheelchair users.
