From Invergordon we journey inland via Beauly (‘beautiful place’) and through Glen Convinth, before descending to the banks of Loch Ness. At the Loch Ness Visitor Centre we will enjoy an audio-visual presentation all about the loch and the creature that reputedly roams its depths. A short photo stop is made at the ruins of Urquhart Castle – a hot spot for sightings of the infamous Loch Ness Monster, or ‘Nessie’ as he is known locally! The castle itself is situated on a rocky promontory and is probably one of the most photographed castles in Scotland. It was built in the 14th century before being blown up in 1692 to prevent its occupation by Jacobites. Our driver will stop for a view of the Castle – usually seen across the Loch. Our tour continues along the Great Glen to Inverness, ‘Capital of the Highlands’, for a short panoramic city tour that takes in some of the more historic sites by the River Ness. The centre of town includes several streets of formal Victorian architecture – the Gothic style Town House representing a more fanciful mood. Proceeding over the Kessock Bridge, we will return to our ship in Invergordon.

The majority of the walking during this tour will be at the Loch Ness Visitor Centre, and the walking involved here is considered easy – the centre is wheelchair accessible. There is a gift shop, where souvenirs may be purchased. For reference, the tour buses may not have air conditioning or toilets. The order of the itinerary may operate to a different order than that described.
