CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
Departing from the pier we will retrace the history of Cape Town on this fascinating tour which will begin with a drive to the Castle of Good Hope, South Africa’s oldest surviving building. Here we can view the military museum and the famous William Fehr collection of art before continuing to Slave Lodge. Dating back to 1679 it was used as slave quarters by the Dutch East India Company (VOC). The lodge displays a diverse array of Ceramics, silver, textiles and artefacts.
We will then take a walk along Government Avenue to see the houses of Parliament and explore the Company Gardens.
Reboarding our coach we will drive past the oldest church in South Africa, Groote Kerk. Continuing on to Maidens Cove we will stop for a photo stop of the stunning views of the Twelve Apostles.
Our return journey will take us along the picturesque coast through the well known towns of Camps Bay, Bantry Bay and Sea Point. Our tour will end with a visit to Chavonnes Battery. Built in the early 1700’s, this was one of the most formidable fortifications of Table Bay. We will be able to explore the waterfront or return back to our awaiting ship.
Tour Notes: There is a moderate amount of walking over a relatively level terrain. There will be the possibility that some steps will be encountered on this tour. A bottle of mineral water will be supplied.
