Mijas
Mediterranean Excursions
MALAGA, SPAIN
Mijas is a typical village of southern Spain, with narrow streets and wonderful views overlooking the coast.
Leaving the quayside in Malaga, we travel towards Mijas, passing pine-clad hills en route to this picturesque village in the foothills of the sierra. Mijas is a typical village of southern Spain, with narrow streets and wonderful views overlooking the coast. We shall have time at leisure to wander through the village. An alternative way of discovering this attractive little town is to hire a donkey taxi (payable locally) that will carry us through the most typical streets, or to simply relax with a cup of coffee on the terraces of one of the many bars and enjoy the scenery.
During our free time, we may like to visit the delightful and immaculately decorated church just up the hill. Its terrace and surrounding gardens afford a splendid panorama down the hillside to Fuengirola and the coast. We can wander at will through the white streets of Mijas, and if we are feeling particularly energetic, we may like to head up the hill behind the village – the higher we go, the more authentic the atmosphere.
On the return journey back to Malaga and our awaiting ship, we shall drive along the coast through Fuengirola and Torremolinos, two famous resorts that form part of the 40 kilometres of coast - popularly known as the Costa del Sol.
TOUR NOTES: This tour involves approximately one hour of free time, following a guided walking tour of Mijas. If passengers do not wish to participate in the walking tour, they can instead enjoy a longer period of free time. Walking during the period of free time is at the discretion of the individual. Cobbled streets and steps will be encountered in and around the town. Please note that should our call fall on a Sunday, shops in Mijas will be closed, although some souvenir shops will be open. For reference, there is a long walk (approximately 300 metres/985 feet) through the passenger terminal to the tour coaches. In the heat, passengers are advised to wear sunscreen and a hat; a bottle of water is also recommended.
