Our local guide will take us on a fascinating trip through Svalbard’s history, geology, its flora and fauna, as well as today’s society. At the new Svalbard Museum, we will find exhibits showing everything from the discovery of Svalbard, its trapping and hunting history, to expeditions, World War II and the history of mining.
This tour in and around Longyearbyen will include the Svalbard Museum and the sled dog kennels. Our local guide will take us on a fascinating trip through Svalbard’s history, geology, its flora and fauna, as well as today’s society. At the new Svalbard Museum, we will find exhibits showing everything from the discovery of Svalbard, its trapping and hunting history, to expeditions, World War II and the history of mining.
After our visit to the museum we will have a short introductory tour of Longyearbyen. During a drive around the town, our guide will point out places of interest.
We continue to the biggest sled dog kennel on Spitsbergen. At the kennels we will be met by around 80 happy and friendly Alaskan huskies. A short introduction to training, socialising and the history of these amazing dogs will be given. Local specialities with tea and coffee will be served. There is a souvenir shop on site.

TOUR NOTES: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking at the museum. The distance from the bus to the dog kennel is approximately 10 metres (30 feet).
