SKJOLDEN, NORWAY
In just half an hour our coach will take us on this winding road up to Turtagrø – the birthplace of alpine sport in Norway with a splendid view of the Hurrungane massif in Jotunheimen.
We will travel through the Jotunheimen National Park with its dramatic alpine peaks, glaciers and waterfalls. The Sognefjell mountain road is a national tourist route and the highest mountain crossing in Northern Europe. In just half an hour our coach will take us on this winding road up to Turtagrø – the birthplace of alpine sport in Norway with a splendid view of the Hurrungane massif in Jotunheimen.
From here we go on to the highest point of the road, more than 1,400 metres (4,600 feet) above sea level. We will see snowdrifts along the road, even through the summer months. Our guide will tell us more about the scenery, the wildlife and the dramatic history of this unique mountain area. We shall stop for refreshments. On our way back we will have a short stop at the Åsafossen Waterfall.
TOUR NOTES: This is a driving tour with optional walking at the refreshment and photo stops. Therefore it is suitable for passengers with limited mobility. There are steps to negotiate at each stop, in order to reach toilet facilities. Please note the journey includes winding roads at height, therefore it may not be suitable for passengers who suffer from vertigo.
