This tour gives us an opportunity to visit two of the islands surrounding Venice. Leaving the pier by motor launch, we travel along the Giudecca Canal and the lagoon to reach Murano, renowned since 1921 for its glass manufacture. The island became a sanctuary for glassmakers after furnaces were banned from Venice as a precaution against fire. Here we will witness masters of this delicate craft at work, during a visit to a leading factory. We now proceed to Burano, a tiny island dotted with brightly painted houses. Its fame is due to its traditional lace making, an art that is still practised by many local women. Following our visit to the island of Burano, we will reboard the motor launch for the return journey to our ship.
Please note that the islands may be visited in a reverse order. After disembarking our ship there may be quite a walk to reach our private motor launches, there are also steps to embark and disembark our private motor launches. Please note that Murano can be quite expensive, the objects are all hand made and prices can often be higher than for similar objects (but not hand made) at souvenir shops in Venice.
