Our tour today is an opportunity to walk through a captivating Arctic landscape and soak up its special atmosphere. Our hike will be beside one of Greenland’s beautiful lakes. In idyllic surroundings we shall pause for refreshments, before retracing our steps. Back in town we will taste some local specialities.
To commence the actual hike there is a walk of approximately one and a half kilometres (one mile) through the town as the lake is situated behind Qaqortoq (the same distance to walk back to the ship upon completion). The total distance is estimated to be six to seven kilometres (four miles) from pier to pier, however the guide will gauge the ability of the group to determine the actual distance to be covered. It is essential that participants have a good level of fitness – this tour is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair users. Uneven ground will be encountered, so suitable footwear should be worn (with a thick tread). Dress warmly in layers that you can add or remove as necessary. It may be worth bringing binoculars and a bottle of water. Please note that the local specialities offered will be mainly meat and no vegetarian alternative.
