VENICE, ITALY

Venice is best admired from the water, and no trip here would be complete without a ride on a gondola.

Venice is best admired from the water, and no visit here would be complete without a ride on a gondola. Gondolas, which have existed since the 11th century, are traditionally built by hand from approximately 280 separate pieces of wood.

We begin our tour with a motor launch transfer to Riva Delle Zattere. Upon arrival, we have an approximate 15-minute walk to the gondola station. Here we board our gondola and commence our journey along the small, charming canals. Whilst admiring the city from the water, we will see that it has altered little over the centuries.

Once our canal trip is complete, we shall be dropped off close to the famous Gritti Palace. From here we will walk to St Mark’s Square, where we can enjoy some free time to explore the area independently or browse the local shops, before meeting our guide to walk back to our motor launch for the return journey to the quayside.

TOUR NOTES: Although it is possible for passengers to do a gondola ride independently, this tour is for those of us who appreciate an organised excursion. Unfortunately it is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair users. There is approximately five minutes of walking from Riva Delle Zattere to the gondola station, 20 minutes from Gritti Palace to St Mark’s Square, and 15 minutes back to the motor launch. After disembarking our ship, there may be quite a walk to reach our private motor launches; there are also steps to negotiate to embark and disembark the launches. Please note that a reasonable walking pace is required to keep up with the group in order to make the most of this tour. Some steps will also be negotiated, as the walking will cover some of Venice’s canal bridges. Walking during the period of free time is at the discretion of the individual. This tour is subject to weather and tidal conditions. Passengers are advised to exercise due care and attention when stepping in and out of the gondolas, which may be affected by swell. Our gondola ride lasts for approximately 35 minutes, each gondola holds six people.
