Leaving the port we will head towards Girona, known as the “immortal city”. This is one of the most interesting monumental cities in Spain due to its rich history and to the large amount of treasures we are able to find there. Four rivers cross each other in Girona and the city was built surrounding them, which gives the old area of Girona a beautiful shape with narrow streets. Our first stop will be a visit of the Arab Baths, a construction that the Jewish community respected, due to the beauty of its arches. Inside this 12th century building, we will discover the “Frigidarium” or cold baths area, the “Caldarium” or hot baths area and the “Tepidarium”, the warm baths area. We will also discover how advance the Arab engineers were by admiring the complex of tubes that were used to distribute the hot air from one room to the next one. The construction follows the Arab architectural rules but has lots of local and North African influence. Our next visit is to the Cathedral of Girona, known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria. Its construction started in the 14th century and finished just 200 year ago. The main nave is 23 metres wide and is the widest one of the Gothic Europe. The coloured window glasses are also one of the highlights of this Cathedral. Before returning to our awaiting ship we will take a walk around “El Call” or Jewish Quarter. The streets in “El Call” are a succession of arches and corridors where the Jewish community lived for almost seven centuries. This tour does include 3 hours of walking in total and so therefore this tour is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility.
