From the pier we drive eastwards to reach the Greek Orthodox Monastery of St George Selinaris, to see its tiny church and baptistery. Proceeding through beautiful countryside we arrive at Elounda Bay, where a stop will be made for a photo opportunity of the crystal clear waters, as our guide points out the island of Spinalonga, with its 13th century Venetian Castle, on the horizon. We continue to the resort of Aghios Nikolaos, passing the ‘bottomless lake’ that is connected to the sea by a narrow channel. After some free time to enjoy this popular place on our own, we rejoin our coach for the return trip to Heraklion. (a journey of approximately 70 minutes).
Please note that bare shoulders and shorts are not permitted in the church of the monastery (the monastery itself is closed to the public), and trousers are not recommended for women. There are approximately 15 easy steps to climb.
