Our guide for the tour, who will provide us with a short orientation and safety briefing will meet us at the pier, before we are asked to don our helmets for a drive of a lifetime ‘Grand Turk Style’! Head off down the narrow marl tracks that skirt the beach and rock coastline around the island to the southeast side of the island, or take a trek to the bluff where we can capture the beautiful view of Gibb’s Cay and the other Turk’s islands that are visible in the Atlantic Ocean.
As we return to our buggies, we will drive to the John Glenn’s capsule located at the entrance to the international airport. We will pass the many Salina’s that were used to obtain salt in its natural form during the salt industry. We may even catch a glimpse of the famous endangered ‘pink flamingos’.
After catching a quick look at the capital, we will then make our way to North Wells which has become home to many of the indigenous wild horses that roam free on the island, before travelling along the North Creek, a ship’s haven during a hurricane, to the northern-most tip of the island. Upon our arrival we will be able to enjoy the views from the cliffs high above the Atlantic Ocean, before starting a short nature walk – if we are lucky we may catch a glimpse of the humpback whales, which migrate during the months of February & March. After our walk, we shall return to our buggies and journey along the East Coast back to our awaiting ship.
