Our tour begins with a visit to Morne Bruce, a 120 metre (400-feet) elevation, for a panoramic view of the city of Roseau – an ideal photo opportunity. We then make a brief stop in the 20-acre Botanical Gardens, containing some of the island’s tallest and most exotic trees. We may also catch a glimpse of the national bird, the Sisserou parrot. From the gardens, we proceed to the village of Trafalgar. Here our guide will lead us on a 10 minute trek to a platform for a unique view of the falls, which majestically cascade side by side out of the deep gorges they have carved for themselves. After our visit to the Trafalgar Falls, we will pass through the city of Roseau to the Springfield Valley and the Springfield Plantation Guesthouse, where we will enjoy a complimentary refreshment. Continuing to the Trois Pitons National Park, we then disembark our bus for a 15 minute trek into the heart of the rainforest to the enchanting Emerald Pool, and its 15 metre (50 feet) cascading waterfall. Through lush green vegetation, which will impress upon us why Dominica is so aptly named the ‘Nature Isle’, we return to our ship. There is a lot of walking involved in this tour, including uneven ground and steps, therefore it is unsuitable for passengers with limited mobility. Please note that the walk to the Botanical Gardens is by a steep hill. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes. Insect repellent may prove a handy addition to your bag. Time spent at the Emerald Pool may be very limited due to time constraints. It may not always be possible for you to take a swim at the Emerald Pool, however we do recommend that you come already wearing your swimming costume under your clothes and don’t forget a towel.
