ST JOHNS, ANTIGUA

Departing from the quayside we shall be driven to the Antigua Recreation ground, home of four existing cricket world records, for a guided tour of the ground. The ground, known locally as the ARG, became cricket’s 52nd Test venue in 1980-81 when it hosted England in a test match marked by a century from the island’s most famous sporting son, Sir Vivian Richards.

Despite the relatively small size of Antigua, with just a population of around 70,000, crowds at the ARG are both extremely knowledgeable and fanatical in their passion for the most famous of Caribbean sports. From here we shall continue to the brand new Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, venue for six super 8 round games in the ICC World Cup 2007 for a guided tour of the ground, before continuing on to the Sticky Wicket Bar & Restaurant, home to the ‘West Indies Cricket Hall of Fame’ where we shall stop for lunch. With a dining area framed by flagstone columns and an open-view kitchen, this is perhaps one of the classiest sports bars imaginable. Cricket is the overriding theme here, where we shall be served lunch surrounded by cricket memorabilia, a cricket souvenir gift shop, all overlooking the handsome Stanford Cricket Ground, the venue of the Stanford 20/20 tournament.A complimentary Sticky Wicket signature rum punch or fruit punch will be served, before we are seated for lunch. And for a dessert like no other, there will be an approximate 30 to 45 minutes appearance from an Antiguan cricket West Indian legend; such as Sir Vivian Richards, Curtly Ambrose, Richie Richardson, Andy Roberts or Kenny Benjamin, to hear their memories and experiences of test cricket and for photo opportunities – there will be many of these, so be sure to bring your camera! Please note that there is a moderate amount of walking and standing involved on this tour. There will be approximately 10 steps to negotiate at each of the venues visited. Unfortunately it is not possible for passengers using wheelchairs to be accommodated on this tour. Don’t forget to bring your camera along!
