BASTIA, CORSICA
Until Napoleon III had rebuilt a coach road at the end of the 19th century, Cap Corse (Cape Corsica) was completely cut off from the rest of the island; it then became a favourite destination because of its wonderful and still very typical and wild landscape.
Until Napoleon III had rebuilt a coach road at the end of the 19th century, Cap Corse (Cape Corsica) was completely cut off from the rest of the island; it then became a favourite destination because of its wonderful and still very typical and wild landscape. During our visit we will discover a mountainous area largely surrounded by sea, with small bays carved by the ocean and a village of green and grey stones perched high in the hills. Cap Corse is really the only place in Corsica where people still live from agriculture and fishing. Our first stop will be in Erbalunga, a marina beloved by French romantics. Here we shall have some free time to explore the streets and admire the faintly coloured and ageing buildings which appear to have been erected almost on top of each other. As we leave the coast we travel in the direction of Luri and join the west side of Cap Corse in Pino where we will make a short stop for refreshments. Our journey will bestow fascinating views of the green hills and the deep blue water. Our next stop will be Nonza, a village built on a black rocky pinnacle dropping vertically into the sea. Here we can see the remains of the village fortress, on the furthermost rocks of the overhanging cliffs. Starting to make our way back to our ship we will drive through the most reputed place in Corsica regarding wine production; the Patrimonio region. Our final stop will be for photos at the Teghime pass. Please note the order of visits may be reversed to avoid congestion and delays. There is optional walking in Nonza, and unevenly paved streets may be encountered. Passengers wishing to use the toilet facilities of a bar/restaurant etc will be expected to purchase a drink.
