AJACCIO, CORSICA

Our tour takes us to the Calanches de Piana – a pink granite coastline that has been engraved and sculpted by erosion – where an incredible panorama will unfold before our eyes as we follow the coastline towards Porto.

Departing from the pier we will commence our tour with a panoramic drive from Ajaccio to San Bastiano Pass, which presents us with a superb view of the Gulf of Ajaccio. Continuing along the coastal route and the Gulf of Sagone, through little summer resorts, we will arrive at the ancient Greek village of Cargese; here we shall stop to visit the two churches, one Orthodox and one Catholic.Our tour then takes us to the Calanches de Piana – a pink granite coastline that has been engraved and sculpted by erosion – where an incredible panorama will unfold before our eyes as we follow the coastline towards Porto. Classed as a UNESCO site, its rose-coloured sheer granite cliffs plunge into the sea. The beautiful scenery here is typical of the whole island and is therefore certainly reason for a visit. Time permitting we will have the opportunity to explore charming Porto for ourselves, before enjoying lunch in the area.Following lunch the scenery changes and we’ll see another aspect of Corsica – the countryside and the mountains.Please note that this tour involves a moderate amount of walking (at Cargese and Porto), including some steps and uneven ground. This tour is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair passengers. We recommend you wear flat comfortable shoes and remember to bring your sun tan lotion along with you! Please note that there are no public toilets in Corsica, passengers who wish to use the facilities of bars/ restaurants etc will be expected to purchase a drink before using the facilities. This tour can only operate for Boudicca’s call on the 8th April 2007 due to the duration of the tour.
