From St Kitts it is an approximate 35- 45 minute ride by sea taxi along the coastline of the south eastern peninsula, to the sister island of Nevis – known as the ‘Queen of the Caribbean’.Upon arrival in the capital, Charlestown, we will take a short drive through this tranquil town, providing us with a glimpse of a simple but civilised lifestyle. A brief stop is made at the Nelson Museum, introducing us to the life and history of this famous son of the soil.We then proceed through several sleepy villages to the Botanical Gardens. They cover eight acres and contain a diverse range of tropical plants and trees, collected from locations around the world. The magnificent landscape is a serene place in which to stroll. There are sections to enjoy such as the Cactus Garden, Bamboo Grove, Orchid Garden, Water-Lily Pools and Tropical Fruit Gardens. A spectacular glass conservatory houses a tropical rainforest and a vast faux Mayan temple, with waterfalls, streams and ponds. We will sip a complimentary refreshment at Martha’s West Indian Tea House.Back at the pier, the sea taxi awaits our arrival for the return boat ride to St Kitts. To make the most of this tour, a lot of walking is involved. Uneven ground and steps can be expected. Wear comfortable shoes, and do not forget your sun protection. What may be flowering is obviously dependent on the season. The crossing time from St Kitts to Nevis can take up to 1 hour, depending on the sea conditions. Please note that it is illegal to wear camouflage in St Kitts.
